As 2017 comes to a close, dealers try and get rid of their remaining 2017 MY vehicles. There are times when they are unsuccessful and end up with last year’s models still sitting on the lot. This can be a boon to someone looking to save money on a brand new car and who doesn’t mind that it’s technically the previous year’s model. However, what happens to those cars that don’t get sold? Well some sit around until they sell, or don’t get sold, like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! So what interesting leftover cars can you find? I’m not talking about MY 2017 cars, I’m talking MY 2016 and older that have been sitting around for some time. I’m also not thinking about exotics where a special edition Ferrari might sit around for a while. I want you to go and find that one new 2013 Corolla still sitting at a dealer lot. If there’s enough participation, maybe I can do a top 10 AOTD, like they used to do for QOTD back a few years ago. Bonus points for a car sitting around that still has a markup, like a Focus RS or something. So get to searching for the unwanted leftovers.

I don’t know how accurate these are, but there is one dealer up north selling a “brand new” 1993 Cadillac Allante.

There are also 3 other listings from a Hamilton Audi dealer for a 2014 RS7, 2015 S5 and 2015 A6 TDI, but since those are only press photos I don’t think they actually exist.

There’s still a healthy supply of 2016 Miatas on dealer lots across the country. All Grand Touring or Club with the flash Brembo/BBS kits.

My mom looked at this exact car 3 years ago. From the looks of things they just moved it into their loaner fleet recently. I’m suprised they’re only offering a 2,000 discount.

Since there isn’t a picture of the odometer, I’m going to assume that it’s not new and just restored. It says showroom condition as opposed to it saying it’s brand new.

Agreed! They had a few 15’s on the lot a few months ago, but I think they moved them to the Used section.

When I was seeing what was out there, I feel like there were a high number of leftover Volvos, for whatever reason.

Also the prices they ask for their used loaners are astronomical with minimal discounts. Check out this 2015 S60 loaner with 10k miles vs a similar used 15 on their lot with 18k

Fair point, although the listing is indeed classified as “New by Dealer”.

Another interesting factoid, if I filter by new and 2016 or older, Nissan seems to lead the pack with 123 vehicles available in the GTA. Dodge had a higher number, but a majority had “Trader QA” on them so it’s probably test listings in production. Dev loves testing in Prod.

Seems like two particular dealers are way overstocked on cars, and they have everything from 2016 Versas to Rogues.

In my opinion most of the non T6 60 series Volvos are lease and then dump cars. Their resale value is pretty mediocre, and the competition is just far superior. My mom is driving a loaded 15 S60 with 15k miles a year for $350 a month with no money down. You really can’t beat that.

About a year ago there were 2 brand new 2012 Malibu LTZs in white in the dealership. By now, they have gone but in 2016 you could still get the previous gen Malibus.

When I was looking the other day I saw an M6 called new, despite the fact that it had 40k miles on it. If they can’t get what transmission a car has correct, you think I’m going to trust them with something like that?

I think there could also be a lot of ads that were left up after cars sold, saw a bunch ads with no pictures, so I don’t think those cars exist.

Since they don’t appear to be offering a discount, no wonder they’ve stuck around. 80k on 2 year old car, or 80k on brand new car. That’s a really though one.

That is a massive difference in price. I’d rather have the car someone bought cause you never know how someone is going to treat a loaner.

The other 3 leftover 2016's are all discounted 20%. Actually a CTS-V-sport and two XTS Vsports in $57-59k range, down from $71-74k MSRP.

Gotta think you can get deal on that ATS-V if you show up ready to buy, but maybe not 20%.

That could be because it was an unregistered demo or service loaner. I saw a few of those too. As far as the dealer is concerned, not first titled to a customer = new, I guess.

On that note... I wonder if the same thing happen with all those unplated rental cars in Vegas.

OK, this local Ford dealer is showing 7 new 2015s - -and they’re ALL V-8 Mustangs with 6 speed manuals!! 5 are Roush cars, the other 2 are fairly normal.

And the 2016's are a dog’s breakfast of Fusions, a Flex, a FoRS and even a pickup truck.

I wonder how many of these cars are still in inventory...

Actually all 7 of the 2015's are Roush Mustangs - the two listed as GT’s are also Roush cars.

I just gave them my info to get ‘their best price instantly’ on the FoRS. Will advise.

I bought a daily last year at this time, 2016 Ford Focus Titanium hatchback. DCT, every option they offer (including remote start), metallic pearl white paint, etc.. Got it for $8500 off MSRP. Nice car for $24k

F-150's are still very nice trucks; I tried to find one for my dad a couple months back. However, they’re so popular they aren’t as cool.

A perfect example is the 2018 Camry. It looks cool, but I’ve seen 30 or so at least; they aren’t special anymore. Same for the 2018 Accord; I saw one and felt like I’d seen a thousand already.
